What sectors does it cover? What impacts will it bring with it? text_text_color=&#8221;#01131a&#8221; text_font_size=&#8221;18px&#8221; text_line_height=&#8221;1.8em&#8221; custom_margin=&#8221;||21px|||&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;|0px|3px|||&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>To understand the purpose of the digital passport produced, it should be mentioned that it is part of the <strong>ESPR regulation<\/strong>, approved in spring 2024.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>ESPR stands for <em>Ecodesign for Sustainable Product<\/em> Regulation, a regulation that is part of the <strong>Green Deal<\/strong>, a package of EU initiatives to reduce emissions by at least 55 percent by 2030.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>ESPR&#8217;s focus is to extend eco-design to most products on the EU market in order to reduce the environmental impact of their lifecycle, as is already the case with household appliances.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, ESPR introduces <strong>new requirements and standards<\/strong> regarding durability, reparability, energy efficiency and recycling of items in order to <strong>counter planned obsolescence<\/strong> and <strong>promote circularity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In this context, the DPP will serve as an informational reference point:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>for <strong>companies<\/strong>, which will have a lever of objective and concrete transparency<\/li>\n<li>for <strong>consumers<\/strong> to make more informed and green choices<\/li>\n<li>for the <strong>authorities-who<\/strong> by receiving the data to display in their portals-will be facilitated in controls and increase consumer confidence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #9a26ed;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.22.0&#8243; duties of transparency may collide with the protection of competition.<\/p>\n<p>The broad informational scope of the DPP, could compromise the confidentiality of strategic data, such as those related to production and procurement flows.<\/p>\n<p>For this reason, the Legislature clarified that <strong>of all the information included in the DPP<\/strong>, only <strong>some will be accessible to consumers<\/strong>, while others will be <strong>accessible<\/strong> only by parties with<em>a &#8220;legitimate interest,&#8221; as<\/em> determined by the Regulation itself or by the Commission.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #9a26ed;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=&#8221;https:\/\/www.seecommerce.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Digital-Product-Passport-sample-information.png&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<blockquote><\/blockquote>\n<p>At least two steps are planned before the DPPs come into effect:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the European Commission will present a three-year work plan in 2025, <strong>establishing the types of products affected<\/strong> by the regulation<\/li>\n<li>defined the types of products, a delegated act will be made for each of them, which will enshrine <strong>what data each sector must adhere to<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In general, the Digital Product Passport will become mandatory <strong>from 2027<\/strong> for most industries, although there are exceptions.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #9a26ed;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.22.0&#8243; text_text_color=&#8221;#01131a&#8221; text_font_size=&#8221;18px&#8221; text_line_height=&#8221;1.8em&#8221; custom_margin=&#8221;||21px|||&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;|0px|3px|||&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/susproc.jrc.ec.europa.eu\/product-bureau\/product-groups\/635\/documents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an initial analysis by the European Commission<\/a>, the product categories first affected by the new Digital Product Passport appeared to be <strong>batteries<\/strong>, <strong>textiles<\/strong>, <strong>electronics<\/strong> and <strong>construction<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As of today, for one of them, the obligation is already fixed.<\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/www.circularise.com\/blogs\/battery-regulation-eu-what-you-need-to-know-about-battery-passports#:~:text=By%201st%20February%202027%2C%20all,electrochemical%20performance%2C%20and%20durability%20requirements.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>1 February 2027<\/strong><\/a>, in fact, battery companies for electric vehicles will have to provide &#8211; for every item with a capacity greater than 2kWh &#8211; a DPP with information on <strong>durability<\/strong>, <strong>performance<\/strong> and <strong>CO2 impact<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The EU has set up a <a href=\"https:\/\/environment.ec.europa.eu\/topics\/waste-and-recycling\/batteries_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">single electronic battery register<\/a>, in which the various digital product passports will converge for surveillance purposes.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #9a26ed;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.22.0&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>A new study of the European Commission carried out at the end of 2024 by the <a href=\"https:\/\/publications.jrc.ec.europa.eu\/repository\/handle\/JRC138903\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joint Research Centre<\/a>, has identified the next product categories for which the digital product passport obligation is likely to be triggered:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>among <strong>final products<\/strong>: clothing, textiles and footwear, furniture, tyres, personal and household care and hygiene products, cosmetics, toys, paints, mattresses;<\/li>\n<li>among <strong>semi-finished products<\/strong>: basic chemicals, iron, steel, plastics and polymers, glass, pulp and paper.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In general, it is likely that the Digital Product Passport &#8211; precisely because of its capillarity objectives &#8211; will be extended to any other product sector, <strong>with a few exclusions<\/strong> (which will apparently concern foodstuffs, animal feed, vehicles and medicines).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #9a26ed;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.22.0&#8243;
